17th - 19th April 2013 | St Mary’s University College, Twickenham has co-organised a conference ‘Materialities of Urban Life in Early Modern Europe’

The School of Theology, Philosophy and History at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham has co-organised a conference ‘Materialities of Urban Life in Early Modern Europe’ to be held this 17th to 19th April. Organised by St Mary’s in conjunction with the University of London, University of Kent, University of Birmingham, University of Glasgow and the University of Southampton, this interdisciplinary conference will explore the qualities of public, private, commercial, domestic and civic material cultures across Europe. The conference forms part of a wider research project from the six institutions. The project looks at material culture in early modern Europe and, in addition to the conference, will also include several workshops and a publication on the material realities of life in Urban communities. Dr Glenn Richardson, Reader in Early-Modern History at St Mary’s, is closely involved in the project and will be speaking at the conference in April. He said, “I am very glad to be involved in this exciting and major research project with colleagues from universities across the UK.” The conference will run from Wednesday 17th to Friday 19th April at Senate House, University of London.
