The Drama St Mary’s Theatre
at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, has announced its spring and summer production programme, offering members of the public the opportunity to see a variety of student and external theatre company productions.
This term, the Drama St Mary’s Theatre will build on its reputation as a touring venue for some of London’s most exciting theatre companies. On 15th April, the University College will welcome the Les Enfants Terribles Theatre Company, which will perform its new work The Trench, a critically acclaimed play performed at the Edinburgh Festival and London’s Old Vic Tunnels.
Fresh from her assistant directing role on Warhorse in London’s West End, former student Katie Henry will return to St Mary’s this April to direct Federico Garcia Lorca’s Yerma. The play follows a young woman, Yerma, in her yearning for children and tells how her obsession leads her to commit a horrific crime.
The new season opens on February 6th with William Shakespeare’s Pericles, directed by Sonia Ritter and performed by second year Theatre Arts students. This play, one of Shakespeare’s more rarely performed offerings, follows the prince Pericles as he flees for his life and searches for his lost wife and daughter. Sonia, who has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), is a founding member of The Lion’s Part, a theatre company that specialises in medieval drama and the Mystery plays.
The season sees the return of Physical Theatre director Anna Healey for Incognito, an interpretation of Nikolai Gogol’s novel The Government Inspector. And former student Kieran Edwards will see his directorial debut for Drama St Mary’s in a devised piece inspired by the short story The Mister and Mississippi, by Friedrich Durrenmatt.
Drama St Mary’s will also continue its strong tradition of work within the community with its community production in April. Building on previous years’ successes with Canterbury Tales and Cabbages and Kings at Ham House, the new show has been devised by international director Chris Baldwin and promises to be another production not to be missed.
