Drama Students Perform in London’s West End

Monday 25th March 2013 | Drama students from St Mary's perform at Jacksons Lane Theatre, Highgate in London's West End

Drama students at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, are preparing to perform in London’s West End later this month. The final year Physical Theatre students will perform a series of original pieces at Jacksons Lane Theatre in Highgate, North London on Monday 25th March. As part of their undergraduate degree, students have created their own theatre companies and devised the productions based on a theme of war, love and peace, adapting classic fairytales to give them their own twist. The first production Hades, Three, Zero is a lyrical piece based on the poems of Ed Poynter and Cara Bethell. It explores love in war, and the pull between duty to family and country. Big Bad Wolf is a contemporary take on the classic story Little Red Riding Hood. The visual piece is about a girl who puts on a red cape and starts to sense a furry threat in the shadows. Finally, The Book of Complaints, is a comic and surreal view of totalitarian state, based on the play by Evgeny Shvarts. A dragon with three heads, a maiden, a French cat, and a knight called Lancelot lead the audience on a journey into a strange world where anything can happen. Physical theatre Programme Director Kasia Zaremba-Byrne said, “This is a unique chance for students to understand how to work as a touring company. They are well prepared and I am sure the audience will have lots of fun.” The performances start at 7pm on Monday 25th March, tickets cost £10 and £7.50 for concessions. To book tickets visit the website http://www.jacksonslane.org.uk/book-tickets/1408/. The productions are also being performed at the Drama St Mary’s Theatre at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st March. Performances begin at 7.30pm and tickets cost £5. To book tickets please email boxoffice@stmarys.ac.uk or visit http://dramastmarysreservations.weebly.com/
