The latest research from Lance Pettitt, Professor of Screen Media at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham is being featured at the Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF) on Friday 8th November at the Seven Arts Centre.
Prof Pettitt’s newly-published study of the Irish filmmaker Thaddeus O’Sullivan, called The Woman Who Married Clark Gable, which was edited with Prof Beatriz Kopschitz Bastos (University of São Paulo), comprises the screenplay of the film and a set of critical essays.
Part of a bi-lingual series, the book comes with a sub-titled DVD of the film. This was recently launched during a two-week film festival curated by Prof Pettitt that saw O’Sullivan’s other films shown in Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires.
During the event at the Festival audiences will enjoy a screening of O’Sullivan’s 2010 film Stella Days and a short documentary about Irish Artist Jack B Yeats with an introductory talk by Prof Pettitt. It forms part of the Irish Arts Foundation and LIFF collaboration to mark ‘The Gathering’, a celebration of Irish arts and culture in Leeds from 31st October to the 26th November.
Pettitt’s work on O’Sullivan is ongoing with a new archive-based double-DVD project underway in conjunction with the Irish Film Institute in Dublin. The work is due to be released next year.
