As part of the annual Richmond Literature Festival, a leading historian at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, will chair a discussion about Richard III, whose remains were found in a Leicester car park in 2012.
On 15 November, Dr Glenn Richardson, Reader in Early-Modern History at St Mary’s, will chair a discussion at Hampton Court Palace with authors Philippa Langley and Michael Jones. Philippa Langley inaugurated the search for the site of King Richard’s burial as part of her on-going research into one of English history’s most controversial monarchs. Michael Jones is a renowned medieval historian, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and member of the British Commission for Military History. Together they have recently published The Search for Richard III: The King’s Grave.
Dr Richardson will interview the authors about their book, their motivation in searching for the king and the highs and lows in their journey of discovery. This will be followed by a question and answer session with the audience.
Dr Richardson said, "I am very pleased to be chairing what should be a fascinating discussion about the search for the body of Richard III, the process by which it was finally discovered and the significance of the king's reign in English history.”
The annual Richmond Literature Festival offers a programme of events for adults and children, bringing together authors and commentators from across the world of literature, food, television, history and politics.
