During the month of November, staff and students at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, have been growing moustaches in aid of ‘Movember’.
The international foundation, Movember, encourages men to grow facial hair in order to raise vital funds for the Prostate Cancer Charity and awareness of prostate cancer, and other cancers that affect men.
Staff and students at the University College have been taking part in Movember for the last few years, and this month, the numbers of MOs has grown in comparison to previous years.
St Mary’s School of Sport, Health and Applied Science Lecturer Rik Mellor, who has been involved in Movember campaigns at St Mary’s for many years, commented, “It’s fantastic to see so many colleagues and students showing support for this important campaign by growing moustaches.
"Each year we raise several hundred pounds, and with donations still coming in, we expect this figure to grow. We are delighted to be involved in both raising awareness and money for this fantastic cause. For some reason this year we are seeing so many more guys on campus with MOs, perhaps it’s the post-Olympic competitive spirit?!”
Donations can still be made via a St Mary’s Movember Staff and Student group page.
