The School of Education, Theology and Leadership at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham has developed its association with Chelsea FC Foundation to offer a free qualification to students.
The Physical and Sport Education undergraduate programme at St Mary’s has worked with the Chelsea FC Foundation for the last five years to provide volunteers for the football club’s ‘Asian Star’ project. As a result of this long-standing association, the Foundation is offering 16 students the chance to obtain a free Level 1 FA Coaching Football qualification. In return, the students volunteer 12 hours of their time to a community football programme run by the Foundation.
Physical and Sport Education Programme Director Michael Ayres commented, “This is an exciting opportunity for our students. Not only do they get to enhance their vocational development, but they also get an opportunity to volunteer with an organisation that has a world renowned reputation.
“We hope that this will be the start of a growing relationship between the University College and the Foundation.”
Stacey Monks, a student on the Physical and Sport Education degree programme said, "This has been so beneficial for me. I have been able to transfer what I have learnt on my degree and gain some valuable technical knowledge of football and coaching. I would like to thank the PSE team and CFC Foundation for providing this fantastic opportunity. I can’t wait to volunteer for the Foundation."
