St Mary’s Academic Explores 1913 Dublin Lock-Out

Dr Ivan Gibbons at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, is to deliver a talk on the 1913 Dublin Lock-Out at the Luton Irish Forum

Dr Ivan Gibbons, Programme Director at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, is to deliver a talk on the 1913 Dublin Lock-Out at the Luton Irish Forum this Tuesday 24th September as part of a series of free cultural seminars. The talk will explore the 1913 industrial dispute, known as the Dublin Lock-Out, outlining how the revolutionary potential of the Lock-Out and the Irish Citizen Army self-immolated on the altar of militant Irish nationalism in 1916, dissipating the effectiveness of Irish Labour as a potent political force for the remainder of the twentieth century. Dr Gibbons said, “This is an opportunity to hear an alternative version of the significance of the 1913 Dublin Lock-Out, both immediately afterwards as well as the long-term consequences for Irish Labour.” The talk begins at 7.30pm at the Luton Irish Forum and booking is essential.
