The second sociology conference/workshop in a collaborative initiative between the Sociology programme at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham and the Department of Social Science at the University of Roehampton is to be held on Friday 28th June.
‘Questioning Resistance – Social Justice in the 21st Century, Violence, Cities and Resilience’ follows the first conference on global social activism, which was held at St Mary’s last year. It is being held at the University of Roehampton’s London campus and will provide a space for sharing and discussing emerging research and new ideas in human rights, social justice, criminology, anthropology and sociology around the themes of violence, cities and resilience.
The afternoon will include various panel sessions, along with a keynote talk from Tim Newman, Professor of Criminology and Social Policy at the London School of Economics who will speak on his research on the 2011 London Riots ‘Reading the Riots.’
The conference will aim to answer a number of questions including what is resilience (and resistance) in the post-financial crisis situation the world finds itself and, and moreover, can these forms of resilience and resistance lead to a more just world?
Attendance costs just £10, including lunch and refreshments. For more information and to book a place, please visit the website.
