Students at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, recently celebrated the year’s achievements at the annual Sports and Societies Award Ceremony, with special guest Olympic Bronze medallist Anthony Ogogo.
St Mary’s Students’ Union offers more than 30 clubs and societies including football, rugby, cheerleading and drama. The annual event, hosted at nearby Twickenham Stadium, recognises all the work within these clubs and societies over the last year.
During the evening, a number of awards were presented to students. The coveted Sports Team of the Year award was given to the Men’s 1st Basketball Team, whilst the Christian Union was named Society of the Year.
The nominees are proposed and seconded by the students, with the winners being chosen by a panel which includes representatives from the Students’ Union and Sport St Mary’s.
St Mary’s Athletics Union President Luke Allen commented, “The Awards evening was a great success with over 300 students and staff in attendance. Anthony Ogogo (Olympic Bronze medallist, Boxing Middleweight) was the special guest, helping to make the evening prestigious and one that will live long in our memory. It was great to celebrate the successes of our teams and societies. We’ve seen students take massive steps forward, both in and out of competition this year. It’s credit to them that sport and activity at St Mary’s is rapidly moving in the right direction! Bring on 2013/2014.”
