St Mary’s Hosts Pedagogical Workshop for Teachers

St Mary’s University College, Twickenham to host free workshop for teachers | 'Promoting Inclusion and Critical Engagement through Education'

On Thursday 7th March, St Mary’s University College, Twickenham is holding a free workshop for teachers looking for a better understanding of how Islam has contributed to the modern world and the history of Britain. Entitled ‘Promoting  Inclusion and Critical Engagement through Education’, the all-day pedagogical workshop is intended for primary and secondary school teachers who would like a better understanding of the role Islamic cultures and societies have played in British and world history. During the day there will be various sessions, including how Islamic science has contributed to world knowledge, interactions between Muslim and Christian societies during the Renaissance, and how to discuss the conflict between Palestine and Israel in the classroom. There is also a presentation on the Mughal exhibition currently being held at the British Library. As part of the workshop, participants will have a guided tour of the exhibit the week after, as well as given tips on how to use the exhibit to stimulate interest and debate in school children. Speakers at the workshop include advisors developing public policy initiatives on identity and inclusion, as well as academics working in the fields of Islamic history, contemporary politics and conflict resolution. The workshop is free, but places are limited. To book a place, please contact Samantha Walcot at samantha.walcot@stmarys.ac.uk.
