On Wednesday 13th February, the School of Management and Social Science at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, is hosting a free public psychology seminar.
The free seminar is open to students, staff and members of the public and will be led by St Mary’s lecturer Dr Lubna Ahmed. She will present her research, ‘What does it take to focus? Individual and cultural difference in visual attention’, which aims to understand how selective attention processes operate and to investigate the internal and external circumstances that affect our ability to overcome distractions.
Dr Ahmed’s work has explored individual and cultural (East vs West) differences in visual attention, established how emersion in a particular environmental urban vs ‘nature’, and how external cognitive load affects our ability to overcome distractions and focus on current goals. These findings and their implications will be discussed during the lecture.
The free public lecture is suitable for a non-specialist audience and will take place at 2pm on Wednesday 13th February at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus. For more information, please contact Dr Victoria Armstrong on victoria.armstrong@stmarys.ac.uk
