Children from more than 40 local schools recently took part in a Richmond Borough sports day, which was held at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham.
The children aged 10-11 took part in the annual sports day, which saw them participate in a range of events including sprint and relay. The Mayor of Richmond Meena Bond also attended to present the children with awards.
St Mary’s Director for Sport Andrew Reid-Smith commented, “Sport St Mary’s offers facilities and programmes for everyone from elite athletes to the wider community and grass roots participation.
“We have hosted this sports day for the last five years and find that the children really enjoy running on the same track as some of the world’s greatest athletes including our own Mo Farah.”
The day gave the children the opportunity to meet those from other schools, take part in sport and have fun at the same time. This year’s event was particularly poignant as the children were able to take part in the sports using the same facilities as many of the Olympic athletes who trained at St Mary’s ahead of the London 2012 Games.
