The Careers Service and Students’ Union at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, recently offered students the chance to meet with local and national employers during its annual Opportunities Fair.
The event is organised during Freshers’ Week as a way to give students the chance to meet with employers and find out more about part-time work and volunteer opportunities. Organisations including Oxfam, Camp America and Abercrombie and Fitch attended the event, which was held in the Students’ Union Hall.
The University College works closely with local and national employers, encouraging students to gain valuable work experience through part-time jobs, volunteering and industrial work placements. According to the most recent data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency, St Mary’s was ranked 24th out of 163 higher education institutions in the UK for graduate employment.
Jessica Monteith at St Mary’s Career Service commented, “We at the Careers Service and the Students’ Union were enormously pleased to be able to provide St Mary’s students with the chance to engage with local business owners face-to-face at the Opportunities Fair.
“Having spoken with most of the participating employers, they were duly impressed by the professionalism displayed by the students who attended the fair. I’m pleased to say this is an event that we will continue to offer!”
