A student at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, recently won a Silver medal at this weekend’s National Weightlifting Championships in Lilleshall National Sports Centre, Shropshire.
Strength and Conditioning Science student Adam Mattiussi, who is a member of the St Mary’s Strength Club, took Silver in the under 77kg category after competing against 2010 Commonwealth contender Halil Zorba, who won Gold.
St Mary’s Strength Club Vice-President Rob Anderson commented, “Adam continues to raise the standard of performance within the St Mary’s Strength Club. After starting his weightlifting career less than three years ago, Adam is on course to qualify for the 2014 European U23’s Championships, the World University Games and the Commonwealth Games, which is a truly astonishing achievement.
“St Mary's Strength Club also thanks Sandy's Fishmongers for their ongoing sponsorship."
Adam is the current U23 British Weightlifting Champion and was recently selected for the Great Britain Weightlifting Talent Squad, which aims to produce lifters for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
