St Mary’s to Host The Robert Kee Memorial Lecture

Thursday 21st March | The Centre for Irish Studies at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham hosts public lecture on the view of Ireland in the 1920s

On Thursday 21st March, the Centre for Irish Studies (CIS) at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham will host a public lecture on the view of Ireland in the 1920s as seen from the view of the foreign press during and in the aftermath of the Civil War. Entitled “Democracy with a Vengeance”, the lecture will be given by Dr Maurice Walsh of Kingston University, author of The News From Ireland (2011). Dr Walsh’s  will explore the work of British writer and critic V.S. Pritchett, who was in Ireland as a correspondent for The Christian Science Monitor at the time. Sympathetic journalists transformed their view of Ireland as a question of great urgency, to one which receded into the simple establishment of a new country. The free, public lecture will be held on Thursday 21st March, from 7pm in the Senior Common Room at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus.
