The Centre for Irish Studies at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham is hosting a guest lecture with author Fionnuala O’Connor this Thursday 25th April.
Fionnuala, who has won the Orwell Prize for political writing and the Ewart-Biggs Memorial Award for mutual understanding and reconciliation, will use the lecture to assess whether the hopes and fears raised during the Northern Irish peace process have come to pass over the past 15 years.
In particular, Fionnuala will be examining whether Northern Catholics and nationalists are now more reconciled to the state. She will also analyse the growing phenomenon of Protestant loyalist, working-class alienation as exemplified by the recent flags controversy.
The lecture will take place at 1pm at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus. For more information and to book your place, please contact Dr Ivan Gibbons on ivan.gibbons@stmarys.ac.uk
