St Mary’s University College, Twickenham has received a £40,000 grant from the Higher Education STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programme in support of Group Centred problem-Based Learning. As part of this, matched funding was used to refurbish one of the science laboratories on campus.
The grant has been awarded to the University College’s School of Sport, Health and Applied Science after the launch of its Applied Physics undergraduate programme, which received its first cohort of students this year.
The money has enabled St Mary’s to redevelop the existing science laboratory to make it more user friendly. The layout has been designed completely with students in mind and offers features such as moveable benches, which will enable more group work.
The Applied Physics programme was developed in collaboration with the nearby National Physical Laboratory, which has also opened a purpose built teaching space specifically for students on the course.
