University College Student Wins National Boxing Title

Joshua Buatsi, student at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, won national boxing title at the 2012/13 National Ambition Boxing Championships (NABC).

A student at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, recently won his fifth national boxing title at the 2012/13 National Ambition Boxing Championships (NABC). 19 year old Joshua Buatsi started his degree in Sport Science and Management Studies at St Mary’s last September, combining his first year of university with training for the competition, which saw more than 700 boxers aged 15 – 19 compete throughout October, November and December. The final, his second senior competition, saw Joshua defeat the two year defending champion Zac Burton, adding to his growing list of boxing medals. Joshua has previously represented England in the sport and is now training for the Senior Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) Championships which will take place later this year. He said, “I'd like to thank those who are close to me for the support they have given me, also a big thank you to my sparring partners, my trainers, the people at church for their prayers and encouragement. Most importantly I would like to thank God for blessing me with all the victories during the championships.” St Mary’s Director for Sport Andrew Reid-Smith commented, “Joshua is still relatively new to boxing but his results clearly indicate the potential he has.  We are delighted for him and wish him every success for the Senior ABA Championships.” You can follow Joshua on Twitter at @boxingbuatsi.
