University College Students Host Prison Theatre Conference

Drama students at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, are holding a Prison Theatre Conference called ‘Does Rehabilitation Work?’ on Tuesday 23rd April

Undergraduate Drama students at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, are holding a Prison Theatre Conference called ‘Does Rehabilitation Work?’ on Tuesday 23rd April at the University College’s Strawberry Hill campus. The conference has been organised by final year Drama and Applied Theatre students as a way to work with prisons and the criminal justice system in order to develop key skills with inmates through the use of rehabilitative theatre. The day is aimed at college and university students who have an interest in drama, the criminal justice system and working with ex-offenders. The conference will offer drama workshops throughout the day with a number of professional practitioners including Rhiannon Sawyer, a freelance youth/prison worker who has worked with the Geese Theatre Company. There will also be an opportunity to speak to a panel of guests during a question and answer session including an ex-offender, people who work with prisoners and companies who specialise in prisoner rehabilitation. There will also be the opportunity to see a verbatim play performed by the students, who have created their own theatre company as part of their studies. The play is based on interviews with peers, the general public and ex-offenders. Does Rehabilitation Work? will take place on Tuesday 23rd April at 2.30pm. The event is free to attend and guests should meet in St Mary's main reception at 2.30pm. For more information or to book your place, please email millie.l.jones@gmail.com
