St Mary’s EPACC Athletes to Compete at World Indoor Championships

Three athletes from the Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham will represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Poland on Friday 7th March to Sunday 9th March. Jemma Simpson qualified for her place at the World Indoor Championships while competing at the Birmingham Grand Prix, which took place on the 15th February, where she ran season’s best. She will run in the women’s 1500m race at the World Indoors. Joining her as part of the 35 strong Team GB and NI squad will be Andy Vernon, who will be competing in the men’s 3000m race, and St Mary’s alumnus Andrew Osagie will compete in the 800m. Andrew also ran in the Birmingham Grand Prix over the weekend, finishing in 4th place and setting a personal best which was the second fastest time ever run by a British athlete indoors, second to Lord Sebastian Coe. Other EPACC athletes who competed at the Birmingham Grand Prix were Charlie Grice and Kris Gauson, who both ran a personal best in the men’s 1500m race, and Stephanie Twell who came 3rd in the 2 mile race.
