Drama students at St Mary’s University, Twickenham are set to perform an adaptation of French playwright Molière’s 1666 play The Doctor in Spite of Himself next month.
The second year Drama and Physical Theatre students, who produced The Chalk Circle earlier this year, will return to the St Mary’s Theatre from 7th until 9th May with their new production, The Reluctant Doctor.
Based on the 1666 comedy, The Reluctant Doctor, tells the story of a drunken woodcutter, whose wife plays a hoax on him to get her own back for his selfishness. The trick results in the woodcutter being hired as a doctor for a rich landowner’s sick daughter, ending with hilarious consequences.
St Mary’s Programme Director Kasia Zaremba-Byrne said, "Physical Theatre students have had an excellent year and their work is going from strength to strength. They are even taking their graduate show 'Simply the West' to Edinburgh Festival this August. I am sure this current production of Molière's delightful comedy also is going to be a hit!"
The play is being performed in the Drama Theatre at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus from Wednesday 7th until Friday 9th May at 7.30pm. Performances are open to members of the public and tickets cost just £5. For more information and to book tickets, please visit the Drama St Mary’s Website.
