Academics and students from Meiji University, Japan visited St Mary’s University, Twickenham on Friday 28th February.
Prof Zenichi Terashima, a lecturer in Sports and Physical Education Practice at Meiji University, visited the University with a group of students. During the visit, they were invited to take part in the Futsal Tournament. While the Player of the Evening was awarded to one of our first year students, the Goal of the Match award went to one of the Meiji team.
The visitors then headed to the SU bar with the rest of the teams to celebrate, and were welcomed by St Mary’s staff and students.
Prof Terashima will be back for a campus visit on Friday 21st March with the Meiji University rugby team, who will participate in a match against St Mary’s rugby squad.
Prof Terashima has links with St Mary’s from his days studying history and policy of sport and physical education in the UK, visiting the university as a research scholar with 30 other researchers.
St Mary’s sports facilities have been used by many Japanese athletes, most recently as a Pre-Games Training Camp during the London 2012 Olympics, and school students from the Osaka region of Japan visited the campus last year.
