A former student at St Mary’s University, Twickenham has helped Britain win a Gold medal at the European Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia on Sunday 1st June.
Olympic medallist and St Mary’s Alumnus Moe Sbihi was part of the Men’s Four team, who won Gold as they crossed the finish line at a time of 05:46.860. The team led in first position throughout the race.
Greece and Italy followed in second and third position while Britain topped the medals table during the two-day event, with a total of eight meals including two gold.
Moe, who helped Britain secure a Bronze medal in the 2012 Olympics, studied Sport Science with Health, Nutrition and Exercise as part of a sports scholarship at St Mary’s.
Director of Sport at St Mary’s Andrew Reid-Smith said, “Moe has been part of the successful men’s eight crew and his more recent inclusion in the four sees him in the top boat in the lead in to Rio 2016. This was their first international outing and winning Gold in a new European best time demonstrates the potential this crew has.”
