Whilst latest reports indicate a shortage of trainee teachers in London, St Mary’s University, Twickenham is bucking the trend after filling all of its Primary PGCE and undergraduate education courses this year.
According to a report by BBC London, there has been a decline in maths and science trainee teachers in London, with unfilled spaces on around half of courses for the two subjects.
However St Mary's School of Education, Theology and Leadership, which was rated as outstanding by Ofsted, has recruited students across its range of BA Primary Education, PGCE Primary and PGCE Secondary, with a particular success in science, maths and modern languages.
Head of the School of Education, Theology and Leadership Dr Maureen Glackin said, “This excellent recruitment outcome is the result of committed, collaborative work between school partners and St Mary's. This partnership will continue to support these trainee teachers as they develop into outstanding practitioners who will go on to provide opportunities for success for the pupils in our schools.”
St Mary’s was established in 1850 as a teacher training college and successfully places graduates within London Schools each year.
