A graduate from St Mary’s University, Twickenham has had his undergraduate dissertation thesis published in a leading sports journal.
Ben Richens, a graduate from St Mary’s BSc Strength and Conditioning Science programme, undertook research for a study entitled ‘The Relationship Between The Number Of Repetitions Performed At Given Intensities Is Different In Endurance And Strength Trained Athletes’.
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of population characteristics on the relationship between the load lifted (as a percentage of one repetition maximum) and the number of repetitions achieved, using a total of 16 participants – weightlifters and runners – to test the thesis.
The study has been published in Biology of Sport, an international scientific peer-reviewed journal that publishes articles concerning basic and applied sciences in sport. It can also be viewed on the Biology of Sport website.
Senior Lecturer in Strength and Conditioning Dan Cleather said, “Ben’s research has important practical implications for coaches. I am immensely proud that he has been able to disseminate his findings in a journal like Biology of Sport, which will allow his research to reach the widest possible audience.”
