Dr Glenn Richardson, Reader in Early-Modern History at St Mary's University, Twickenham, has been appointed as consultant to the Historic Royal Palaces Agency, based at Hampton Court.
The Agency is beginning a research project which will result in the construction of a huge Tudor royal tent, or pavillion, of the kind that were built for the famous meeting of the Field of Cloth of Gold in 1520. Once constructed according to authentic contemporary designs, the tent will tour the country before being set up for permanent display at Hampton Court.
Dr Richardson said, “I am very pleased to be involved in this unusual and interesting archaeological project. It will teach us a good deal about how the Tudors used textiles and other materials in temporary structures designed to show their monarchy off at its most spectacular.”
