St Mary’s University, Twickenham has announced plans for a £350,000 investment in its student television studio, which will be redeveloped into a new state-of-the-art multi-purpose production facility, opening this September.
Used by students on a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses including BA Media Arts, BA Screen Media and MA Sports Journalism, the investment to develop the existing studios will enhance the current offering with industry standard facilities for film, television and audio production, alongside creative and technical theatre design and visualisation capabilities.
There will also be a brand new computer suite with the latest Apple MacPro workstations, offering students 24 hour access to professional grade creative technologies.
The new facilities will also provided St Mary’s Drama programmes with the opportunity to grow its programme provision to include screen acting, presenting, and lighting and sound design.
Head of the School of Arts and Humanities at St Mary’s Prof Lance Pettitt said, “Students already have access to a range of first class technical and creative facilities on campus. This investment will give them the best possible experience of the broad selection of design and production disciplines taught within the programmes.”
Media Arts Programme Director, Lee Brooks added, “The addition of a next generation computer suite will work alongside out existing dedicated Mac network and stock of high quality production equipment, ensuring students are ‘industry-ready’ and increasing their graduate employment prospects.”
The media facility will open in September 2014 and will also be available for external hire. For more information about St Mary's undergraduate and postgraduate programmes please visit the website.
