Dr Andre Roca, Lecturer in Sports Coaching Science at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, recently gave a successful presentation at an event organised by the English Institute of Sport (EIS) in Sheffield.
Entitled “Capturing and testing perceptual-cognitive expertise”, the presentation formed part of the 5th Annual Meeting of Expertise and Skill Acquisition (ESAN) hosted by the EIS.
Dr Roca’s research examines the perceptual and cognitive mechanisms underpinning anticipation and decision making expertise in sport (using process-tracing techniques such as eye-movement recording and verbal reports of thinking) and how its acquisition may be facilitated through effective practice.
The paper was recently published in the Behavior Research Methods journal, which publishes articles concerned with the methods, techniques, and instrumentation of research in experimental psychology with a particular focus on the use of computer technology in psychological research.
Dr Roca also discussed his work at the Centre for Sports Medicine and Human Performance (CSMHP) at Brunel University on Wednesday 21st May.
