Stuart Oliver, Programme Director for the undergraduate Geography programme at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, was recently shortlisted for an award for his work on geographical research.
Stuart was nominated for the Wiley–Blackwell Publishers Area Prize for New Research in Geography for his essay entitled Liquid materialities in the landscape of the Thames, which looked at the geography of mills on the River Thames. It suggests that the geography of the mills was, like other features in the landscape, the same for centuries but then capable of very rapid historical change.
Area is a publication from the Royal Geographical Society and the purpose of the Area Prize is to encourage submissions from new researchers and to reward excellent geographical research.
About the award, Stuart said, “I am delighted to have been shortlisted for this prize. It's a very positive endorsement of the quality of work we do here in the Geography department at St Mary’s.”
