Lecturers from the School of Management and Social Sciences at St Mary’s University, Twickenham have been involved in a series of important research events during the 2013/14 academic year.
Senior Lecturer and Programme Director for Education and Social Sciences, Dr Victoria Armstrong saw the publication of her paper ‘Women’s musical lives: self-managing a freelance music career’ in the November 2013 edition of Women: a Cultural Review. Dr Armstrong has also been invited to the University of Orebro in Sweden to give a keynote lecture as part of their Cultural practices, literacies and technological mediations conference in March.
Senior Lecturer in Psychology, Dr Christine Campbell gave a talk at the Wolf Whistled workshop at Tindlemanor in Central London in January 2014, speaking at the grassroots feminist organisation about her research on romantic relationships. Dr Campbell also undertook a research trip to Warsaw to work on a project looking at cross-cultural perceptions of consensual non-monogamy, to be submitted as an article to the Journal of Sex Research later in the year.
Dr Michael Hast, Lecturer in Education and Social Sciences presented his paper ‘Children’s developing theories of motion: Subjectivity and shift’ at the 6th World Conference on Educational Sciences in Floriana, Malta in February. His work is due to be published in Procedia Social and Behavioural Sciences later this year.
Finally, part-time Lecturer in Geography, Dr Jenna Truder has recently finished her research on long-term outcomes for vulnerable households who have entered the private rented sector. She was involved in a launch event at the British Library on Wednesday 26th February with an invited panel including Shadow Housing Minister, Emma Reynolds.
With the recent announcement of a new Centre for Law and Culture in June 2014, this has been an important semester for the School of Management and Social Sciences.
