The annual student West London Varsity event is fast approaching and St Mary’s University, Twickenham will take to the field once again in the highly anticipated event in the University’s academic sporting calendar.
Taking place on Wednesday 26th March at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus, teams from a range of sports will compete against Brunel University with the hope of becoming West London Varsity champion.
Events will be split between St Mary’s sports facilities in Strawberry Hill and at its Teddington Lock campus and this year promises to be as exciting and competitive as previous years with a number of new sports added to the line-up. Mixed tennis, futsal and men’s volleyball are all new additions to this year’s event and will make for a thrilling experience for competitors and spectators alike.
St Mary’s Athletics Union President Pietro Palladino said, “The majority of the fixtures are scheduled and the level of planning since July last year is really starting to pay off now as everything is all coming together for what will be a great day. All we can hope for is that the weather doesn’t affect us and that teams can push it even further this year. I want to see blue and white face paint everywhere.”
With a draw in the past two Varsity matches, students, staff and the local community are encouraged to come and show their support for team St Mary’s. Official West London Varsity t-shirts will be available at the end of February and will include entry to the indoor events.
In anticipation of the event, St Mary’s Students' Union has released its trailer video, which you can watch on the SMSU Youtube Channel.
