A member of the rowing team at St Mary’s University, Twickenham helped direct the University of London Boat Club (ULBC) Men’s Eight to win at the Quintin Head competition in Chiswick on Saturday 25th January.
Sports Rehabilitation undergraduate student Matilda Horn coxed the ULBC Men’s Eight to win the senior category and the team also took the Headship as the fastest boat of the day, beating the likes of Oxford Brookes' elite and senior boats, Imperial College, Thames and Molesey. The win was particularly pleasing as the rowing crew lost a member in the warm up to the race and had to look for a replacement.
Matilda said, “This was a brilliant result given in the pre-paddle, one of our crew members became injured and we had to find a replacement the hour before. Even with this stress we knew our race plan, stuck to it and were able to take our training into racing and achieve the best.”
Due to injury Matilda has moved from lightweight rowing to coxing and is currently on trial for the U23 and FISU (International University Sports Federation) coxing positions at St Mary’s.
