The Richmond Carers Centre recently hosted their annual Carers Conference at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, where veteran BBC broadcaster Jackie Ashley was a guest speaker.
The conference gives carers the chance to meet and discuss the issues they face, including any changes to the Care Act.
Jackie Ashley spoke about her experience of caring for her husband, who suffered a stroke 18 months ago. She praised the Richmond Carers Centre for the support she has received and spoke of her aims to raise awareness of all carer’s organisations and to get more GPs involved in the cause.
Caroline Tomlinson, an avid campaigner for the rights of carer’s, also delivered a presentation highlighting certain elements of the Care Act. A report from the conference will be presented to Richmond Council for consideration in the local implementation of the Care Act in 2015.
