Six athletes from the EPACC at St Mary’s University, Twickenham have been selected to compete at the European Cross Country Championships.

Six athletes from the Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham have been selected as part of the British Athletics team that will compete at the European Cross Country Championships. The Championships, which are being held in Hyeres, France, on the 13th December, will see two juniors, two U23’s and two senior athletes from the EPACC programme compete based on their performance at the Liverpool Cross Country Challenge at the end of November. Team Captain for the St Mary’s Athletics Team Jacob Allen and current student Richard Goodman will compete in the men’s U23 race. Meanwhile, Mo Farah Foundation scholar Amy Griffiths, who competed at the World Cross Country Championships early this year in China, and Grace Baker will run in the women’s junior race. In the senior races St Mary’s alumna Steph Twell, who competed in the World Athletics Championships in Beijing in August, and Johnny Hay will compete. A number of other EPACC athletes also performed very well at the Liverpool Cross Country Challenge, narrowly missing selection. Luke Cadwell finished in the top 20 of the men’s senior race, whilst Beth Potter and Louise Small also ran well finishing 13th and 22nd in the women’s senior race. In the women’s junior race Georgina Outten finished in 14th place and in the men’s junior race Corey Death, Ellis Cross and Jack Rowe all finished in the top 20. EPACC Performance coach Mick Woods and team coach for the championship said, “It was great to see so many St Mary’s EPACC athletes running so well in the trial at Liverpool. Hopefully this will act as a springboard for some outstanding performances in the forthcoming championships”.
