Explore the Sound of Bubbles with St Mary’s Physics Café

Do bubbles affect our daily lives? Is there a relationship between bubbles and sound? These are just some of the questions being asked during the latest Physics Café at St Mary’s University, Twickenham on Monday 20th April. Organised by St Mary's Applied Physics team, the latest event in the series will be led by acoustician Dr Gianluca Memoli at National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and is open to members of the public keen to find out more about this fascinating subject. From fizzy drinks to soap and even volcanoes, bubbles are all around us and this interactive talk will explore the bubble world, explain how they affect our daily lives in unexpected ways and how we can exploit the strange relationship between bubbles and sound. St Mary’s Applied Physics Programme Director Dr Elisabetta Canetta said, “It is a pleasure to host Dr Gianluca Memoli at the next St Mary’s Physics Café. Dr Memoli is not only well-known for his pioneering work in the physics of bubbles and their different applications, but also for his engaging, entertaining, and inspiring talks in this fascinating branch of applied physics. I am confident that the audience will be entranced by Dr Memoli’s outstanding talk.” This event is free and open to members of the public without prior registration from 6.30pm. For more information, please contact Dr Elisabetta Canetta on elisabetta.canetta@stmarys.ac.uk. The next event in the Physics Café series, Testing Gravity in the Solar System, will take place on Monday 29th June led by St Mary’s Applied Physics Lecturer Dr Ali Mozaffari.
