Right Reverend Monsignor Roderick Strange has been appointed Visiting Professor at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, London. The appointment comes as the leading Catholic University prepares to celebrate its 165th anniversary.
From his current position as Rector of the Pontifical Beda College in Rome, Monsignor Roderick Strange will take up his post at St Mary’s later this month. He will deliver lectures drawing on his rich theological knowledge as part of St Mary’s public lecture series in 2015.
St Mary’s is the largest Catholic University in the UK and this year will celebrate 165 years since its foundation in 1850. The University recently appointed Cardinal Vincent Nichols, head of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, as its Chancellor.
The 165th anniversary of St Mary’s will be marked by a number of high-profile events, including the co-sponsorship of a series of public lectures on the theme of ‘Ethics in Public Life’ with the Von Hügel Institute (VHI), St Edmund’s College, Cambridge University, and Las Casas Institute at Blackfriars, Oxford University.
Francis Campbell, Vice-Chancellor of St Mary’s, said, "It’s a real privilege to welcome Monsignor Strange to St Mary’s. He brings with him a wealth of theological knowledge and academic prestige. Our university will be enriched by his presence.”
Monsignor Roderick Strange said, “I look forward to being a part of life at St Mary’s and helping to explore the way faith contributes to learning.”
Prior to being appointed Rector of the Pontifical Beda College in Rome, Monsignor Roderick Strange was a member of the Theology Faculty at the University of Oxford. He is also an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has had several books and many articles published on pastoral and catechetical subjects with a particular focus on the life of Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman. His most recent publication, John Henry Newman: A Mind Alive was received to wide acclaim. He also writes a monthly column for The Times newspaper on religion and faith.
