The Mo-tivate Hounslow project hosted a special afternoon of sport at St Mary’s University, Twickenham for local young people on Thursday 9th July.
The event welcomed 70 young people from both Mo Farah’s old school Feltham Community College and Cranford School to the University; Mo Farah also trained at St Mary’s from 2001-2011. The afternoon began with a tour of St Mary’s world-class sports facilities and presentations given by Mo Farah Foundation Scholars from the University, which discussed their sporting journeys and what led them to where they are now.
Later, the young people took part in activities with Sport St Mary’s coaches and Motivators from Mo-tivate Hounslow, including a running workshop, shot and long jump training, short tennis, and dodge ball.
Director of Sport St Mary’s Andrew Reid-Smith said, “St Mary’s was delighted to support the Mo-tivate project, it was wonderful to see so many local young people engaging in sport, using the same facilities as Mo himself and coached by our own students.”
The Mo-tivate Hounslow project is a partnership between the Mo Farah Foundation, Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and Sport Impact and aims to boost sports participation in Hounslow amongst young people in the 14 to 25 age group. The programme aims to engage with over 3000 young people over the next three year.
