Richmond Literature Festival Modern Slavery Event at St Mary's

The Centre for the Study of Modern Slavery (CSMS) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham in partnership with the Dalit Freedom Network is hosting an event as part of the Richmond Literature Festival on Friday 20^th November. The event, entitled Broken Lives: Telling The Story, will see authors Catherine Rubin Kermorgant and David Skivington speak on how and why their writing uses the backdrop of modern slavery and human trafficking in India. Catherine is a documentary film maker and author whose book Servant of the Goddess tells the story of five women in Southern India who are forced into slavery by a fertility cult. David volunteered at a rural orphanage school in South East India before releasing his debut novel Scar Tissue, which explores the prejudice faced by modern Indians through the caste system and the cruelty of human trafficking. The event is free to attend and open to the public, but tickets must be booked through the booking website. It will be taking place at 7.30pm on Friday 20^th November in the Waldegrave Drawing Room on the University’s Strawberry Hill Campus.
