St Mary’s University, Twickenham and The Lensbury Club, which are both Team Bases during Rugby World Cup 2015, are to host part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour later on this summer.
The Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour will take place from 10 June to 18 September 2015 and will travel across the UK and Ireland visiting Team Bases, rugby clubs, schools, town and city centres, community events and iconic landmarks. The Webb Ellis Cup will make its way to St Mary’s and The Lensbury, joint Team Bases for the New Zealand and South Africa Teams, on Thursday September 10.
As part of the visit, the venues are set to host a community rugby event for local schools, residents, staff and students. St Mary’s Director for Sport Andrew Reid Smith said, “We were delighted to be named as a joint Team Base for the New Zealand and South Africa Teams ahead of Rugby World Cup 2015.
The Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour is an opportunity to celebrate before the Tournament begins and we are looking forward to being able to engage with the local community throughout the Tournament.” The Lensbury General Manager Ivor Turner said, “Grassroots involvement in sport, especially Rugby, is integral to our philosophy and we are proud to have this as part of our outreach programme with Rugby World Cup 2015.” St Mary’s regularly hosts international rugby teams in its world-class sports facilities and were a Pre-Games Training Camp during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
