St Mary's Centre for Irish Studies Invites Postdoctoral Fellowship Applications

The Centre for Irish Studies (CIS) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham invites scholars interested in applying for British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship to send in research proposals with a view to being hosted at St Mary’s as a sponsoring institution. The Director of the CIS Prof Lance Pettit is inviting recent doctorates, post April 2013, to write with expressions of interest and project proposals for the 2015/16 British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme. These three-year awards offer opportunities for outstanding early career researchers to strengthen their experience of research and teaching in a university environment.  For information, including eligibility criteria please click here. CIS offers London’s only MA in Irish Studies, its research outputs in Irish Studies as part of U36 in REF2014 were rated 60% at 4/3*and it has a growing doctoral culture. Prof Mary McAleese is joining St Mary’s as a Distinguished Visiting Professor in 2015/16 and other Faculty staff include Prof Mary Hickman, Prof Shaun Richards, Prof Lance Pettitt, Drs Keith Hopper, Ivan Gibbons, Michelle Paull and Richard Mills. Research and teaching is interdisciplinary with strengths in the disciplines of history, sociology, literature, film and cultural theory relating to Ireland and its diaspora. The Centre is part of a two year Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Research Network, with Trinity, Dublin, and Liverpool John Moore’s University, on ‘Marginal Irish Modernisms’, hosting its inaugural symposium on 6^th to 7^th November 2015. CIS at St Mary’s is also hosting the (British Association for Irish Studies) BAIS annual conference on Irish Studies on 4^th to 5^th September. It also enjoys the support of Irish Embassy in London, works closely with the Irish Cultural Centre, Hammersmith; the Irish Literary Society and Irish Arts. It has recently won a Culture Ireland grant of €4,000 to support a film festival and research on Irish cinema in Brazil for November 2015 and collaborates on research/curation with the IFI in Dublin on archive based projects.
