Drama and Theatre Arts students at St Mary's University, Twickenham recently enjoyed an acting for radio master class with the celebrated writer and director, Nigel Bryant.
Hosted in the recently refurbished TV Studio, the students were able to gain fascinating insights into acting for radio from Nigel, previously Head of Radio Drama for the BBC. During the practical master class, the students were also able to put Nigel's advice into practice and hone their performances for radio.
Nigel said, "It was a pleasure to work with such intelligent young actors. Radio drama is a very pure form; it relies on the imaginations of both the actors and the audiences. It also requires actors who have the ability to analyse text and fully exploit its potential. The students' work was some of the best I've seen."
Professor of Drama Education at St Mary's Trevor Walker said, “The students' attainment on the new Acting for Film, TV and Radio modules has been excellent. A recent survey revealed that 60% of drama graduates' first acting jobs were in the media. It is for this reason that the Drama and Media Programmes at St Mary's are finding new ways to collaborate on a number of modules. The newly refurbished TV & Radio studio is proving to be a valuable asset for Drama and Media students."
