The Centre for Irish Studies at St Mary’s University, Twickenham is hosting the inaugural Arts and Humanities Research Centre (AHRC) Marginal Irish Modernisms Symposium on the 6th to 7th November 2015.
The event is a part of a 2-year funded AHRC research network project led by Liverpool John Moore’s University with St Mary’s and Trinity College Dublin. The second day is hosted in conjunction with the Irish Cultural Centre (ICC), Hammersmith. Both days feature leading academics from Ireland, the US and the UK including Prof. Joe Cleary, Prof. Paige Reynolds and Dr Deaglan O Donghaile amongst others.
The MA Irish Studies degree at St Mary’s offers ‘Researching Modernities’ as a core module and students benefit from having this symposium as part of their learning, completing a report on the event as part of their assessment. PhD students from other universities, working on any aspect of Ireland and modernism, are invited to attend this free event.
Hammersmith ICC will provide the setting for the final day and will be a public event featuring Alan Titley’s bi-lingual talk on The Dirty Dust by Martin O Cadhain in addition to screenings of a film about O Cadhain, Rí an Fhocail/King of Words (RTE) and a rare screening of the Poe short story The Tell-Tale Heart (1934).
The event is free so click here to book. For further information: samantha.walcot@stmarys.ac.uk.
