Final year undergraduate students from the School of Sport, Health and Applied Science (SHAS) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, have been presented with awards for their research during a ceremony last week.
More than 100 students showcased their work with a poster presentation at the 10th annual research forum, which celebrates student work. During the day, 23 students were presented with awards across various subject areas for Outstanding Academic Achievement and Individual Achievement.
Some of the winning research titles included The effect of three different eating patterns on total energy intake, A two-year study of the King-Devick test in University level Rugby League, and, Do the arms affect the speed and accuracy of the football instep kick?
The awards were presented by Head of the School of Sport, Health and Applied Science Prof John Brewer, who said, “This successful event is now in its 10th year and offers students’ an opportunity to present their final year research. This is a great chance for them to gain experience of research projects, and in many cases to see how their research can be applied to real-life situations. Many of our students will hopefully have long and successful careers in research, and the independent and inquisitive thinking that is needed are characteristics that are a fundamental part of the learning experience here at St Mary’s.”
