The Teaching and Learning team at St Mary’s University, Twickenham hosted the annual Teaching and Learning Conference on the 30th June. The conference, which was attended by over 60 members of staff, gave attendees the opportunity to share best practice on issues relating to teaching and learning. The theme for this year’s conference was Innovative Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and featured a keynote address by Emeritus Professor of Higher Education at University College London's Institute of Education and St Mary’s Alumnus Prof Ron Barnett. The formal launch of the St Mary’s Teaching and Learning Development Framework (TLDF), which is the University’s new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) framework for teaching and learning and is accredited by the Higher Education Academy, also took place during the conference. The day concluded with the presentation of the St Henry Walpole Award for Teaching and Learning, the University’s annual award in recognition of the contribution of staff to enhancing the student learning experience by developing creative and/or innovative approaches to learning. The prize consisted of £1000 and a time allowance for the dissemination of good practice across the University. The awarding panel received nine applications, choosing one winner and three highly commended applications.
