A panel of nine law professionals visited students on the LLB Law and BA Business Law Programmes at St Mary’s University, Twickenham on Tuesday, 20th October.
The University welcomed guests from solicitors’ firms Morrisons LLP and Blaser Mills LLP, a barrister from 3PB Barristers specialising in employment law, the legal director for Cemex UK, a legal consultant from Kroll Ontrack and two trainee solicitors, including alumna Rhoda Bryans, from Addleshaw Goddard Solicitors. The panellists spoke about what it is like to practise law and gave the students their top tips on developing a successful career in law.
Lecturer in Law at St Mary’s, Jenny Henry said, “The speakers’ talks were very well received and the post forum drinks gave students the opportunity to try out their networking skills which we had covered in a practical workshop earlier that day.”
Lloyd Gash, also from the Law Programme, echoed Jenny’s comments and noted that, “The Forum was a great opportunity for students to learn, first hand, about how law is practised by professionals at various stages of their careers and across a broad range of specialisms.”
Senior Careers Consultant Anna Favalessa said, “Our students were able to get a real insight into the factors that will affect their career decisions, such as organisational culture and what the day to day job looks like. St Mary’s Careers Service is pleased to be working so closely with the law programme, supporting our students to achieve long term career success.”
