A final year undergraduate Business Management student Rubia Begum at St Mary’s University, Twickenham recently hosted a business start-up workshop and networking event for entrepreneurial students looking to start their own business in the future.
The event attracted St Mary’s students from across a number of degree programmes who were all keen to hear from various guest speakers who discussed aspects of starting a new business.
Guests included St Mary’s alumnus, Chris Locke, who is Managing Director for Pearson Academy of Leadership and Management and Startup Republic who advised students on the do’s and don’ts of starting a small business; Lucy Timms, Co-Founder of Headstartuni, a small business aimed at maximising independence and minimising debt of students advised on all things financial; Mette Marie Sutton, an Associate at Collyer Bristow, advised on Intellectual Property and Tim Cooke, founder of Planet Retail, a provider of retail insights and data, talked about his journey in setting up and running a successful business.
St Mary’s Business Management Academic Director Lise Georgeson said, “Many young people have fantastic ideas for their own business, but it can often seem like a very daunting prospect. It was because of this that Rubia decided to set up this workshop to give students access to industry professionals to give first-hand advice on a variety of topics.
“The event was a huge success and we are looking forward to organising more workshops like this in the future.”
