Last week, Undergraduate Business Management students from St Mary’s University, Twickenham visited the Rugby Football Union (RFU) at its iconic stadium in Twickenham as part of the second year undergraduate module Leadership in Organisations.
Students attended a workshop session organised and delivered by Patrick McMaster, Senior Learning & Development Partner and Lucinda Pullinger, Human Resources Director at the RFU. Lucinda introduced the session and gave a perspective on the leadership journey within the organisation and was followed by Patrick who spoke in more depth about the change that the organisation had gone through over recent years. The group also heard from Rosie Williams OBE, Head of Local Rugby Delivery, who shared her own experience in the sport industry and talked about how the RFU has recently raised its game in terms of Culture, Performance and Leadership.
The session offered students invaluable insights into the realities of leadership in the workplace and was not only informative and relevant to their degree studies, but a lot of fun, not least because they were treated to a tour of the impressive stadium before they left. RFU HR Director, Lucinda Pullinger said, “The St Mary’s students asked good questions about what great leadership looks like in sporting organisations.”
