St Mary's to Host Science and Religion Workshop

The Applied Physics department at St Mary’s University, Twickenham is to host a special one day workshop exploring the Science and Religion intra-relationship on 18^th May. The aim of the workshop is to rediscover the synergy between science and faith, and to promote a dialogue between scientists, both believers and non-believers, and theologians. The day will be articulated in four sessions featuring speakers from the University and beyond. The afternoon sessions will be preceded by a brief talk from St Mary’s Vice-Chancellor Francis Campbell. Each session will focus on specific topics, including whether scientific insights within natural phenomena can unravel their true mechanism with the support of religious insights and if scientific knowledge can be used as a tool to study and fully understand the inner meaning of sacred texts, amongst others. Programme Director for Applied Physics at St Mary’s Dr Elisabetta Canetta said, “The aim of this one-day workshop on the intra-relationship between Science and Faith is to build fruitful collaborations across the three disciplines, science, philosophy and theology, that better define the human being as well as the relationship between God and creation. “The workshop represents the first step of a journey that could lead St Mary’s to become a hub for science and faith and the creator of a new generation of scientists, theologians and philosophers who can fully appreciate the inner beauty and meaning of Nature, Deity and Man and see them as a Unity.” The event is free and open to the public, beginning at 10am in the Senior Common Room on the University’s Strawberry Hill Campus.
