St Mary’s University, Twickenham is proud to be one of the main sponsors of Flame 2, the UK’s largest Catholic youth event, which is taking place on Saturday 7th March in the SSE Arena, Wembley.
Organised by the Catholic Youth Ministry Federation (CYMFED), Flame 2 is the largest national Catholic youth event in the UK. The event is open to young people aged 14 to 21 and will feature speakers including Cardinal Luis Tagle, Baroness Sheila Hollins, Fr Timothy Radcliffe OP and David Wells, who will guide the audience through some of the key themes found in Pope Francis’ The Joy of the Gospel. The day will be interspersed with music provided by double Grammy award winning Matt Redman and his band.
St Mary’s Lay Chaplain Caroline Stanton said, “Being able to join so many young people for a day of celebrating faith is a real blessing. The group from St Mary’s is really looking forward to being inspired and encouraged at Flame this weekend.”
There will be a strong St Mary’s presence throughout the day as Recruitment Officers Holly Cook and Max Ford will participate both in the opening Liturgy and concluding Adoration. The University’s Chancellor Cardinal Vincent Nichols will play a key role in proceedings and lead the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at the conclusion of the day.
Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement Professor Anne Moran OBE said, "I am privileged to represent St Mary’s at Flame 2 and to join with young Catholics in this exciting demonstration of faith. It is our confident hope that Flame 2 at Wembley will capture the fervour of World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro. On that occasion Pope Francis said ‘I hope there will be noise ...I want you to make yourself heard in your dioceses. I want the noise to go out. I want the Church to go out on the streets. I want us to resist ...everything that might make us closed in on ourselves.’’’
